Notice to Citizens of the Troy Area School District

Act I of 2006 allows communities to make certain decisions about local tax structure. The law requires that a referendum question be placed on the May 2007 primary ballot regarding increasing income taxes and decreasing homeowner property taxes by the like amount. School boards are required to appoint an independent tax study commission comprised of community members to make such a recommendation. The Troy Area School District board will screen and select its own study commission and must do so by September 14, 2006. Commission members will meet several times over the next several months, study budget and demographic issues, and make a recommendation to our school board by December 2006.

Citizens of the Troy Area School District who are interested in applying to serve on the school district tax study commission must meet the criteria that reflect the social, economic, age and occupation diversity of the school district. Members may not include any district official or employee or relative of a district official or employee. Interested persons are invited to contact our school district’s administration office for an application. Calls or letters of interest should be directed to the school board secretary, Mrs. Laura Decker, 297-2750. Deadline for submitting an application is August 31, 2006.
