Principal's Message

Welcome to the Troy Area Elementary Schools.  Our elementary schools are at the forefront of current practices in educating the elementary child.  Our curricula and programs reflect our continued dedication to maintaining the highest standards for our students.  All children are given opportunities to develop into responsible, productive individuals.  Students are presented with the tools and strategies to excel as they continue their educational career at Troy and beyond.

Our K-4 programs are strong and reflective of years of research, training and experience within our staff.  Our teachers serve on various state level professional committees; always aware of the latest trends in the field.  We also have teachers who represent our schools as speakers at national conferences.

In addition to the core curriculum, all students experience “specials” on a rotating schedule.  Specials include physical education, music, art, library, technology and guidance.  These classes provide opportunities for creative expression, writing, drawing, music, decision making, and friendship skills to name a few.

The elementary schools are in the fourth year of implementing Everyday Math and have updated to the third edition this year.  The Everyday Math program is intense and has proven itself to be a strong program again and again as our math scores continue to improve.  Everyday math requires parent support each day with Homelinks/Studylinks.  Material in these papers has been covered in that day’s lesson.   A Family Letter is sent home to begin each new unit.  This letter has ideas for parents to do at home to support the upcoming unit as well as hints to help parents with the Homelinks/Studylinks.  Everyday Math is a spiral curriculum that touches math concepts repeatedly to ensure success.  This program uses many innovative approaches; let your child teach you what he/she has learned.

We use a Balanced Literacy approach to teach reading.  A Balanced Literacy approach uses phonics, writing, leveled reading groups, and reading skill instruction to provide a balanced approach to reading.  Students are provided reading instruction at their own level via leveled readers and small group instruction.

Communication is the first step to positive relationships between home and school.  Please help us maintain open communication.  The teachers and I can all be reached through notes, phone calls, emails and visits.  Feel free to visit the schools, volunteer if possible, and become an active partner in your child’s education.

It is our goal to make the school year a positive experience that challenges your child to be all that he/she can, while developing into a responsible, life-long learner, ready to take on the challenges of life.
