TITLE I PARENT COMPACT

The W.R. Croman Primary School, and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

 

School Responsibilities

 

The W.R. Croman Primary School will:

 

  1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards, and growth goals as follows:
    1. Using a Balanced Literacy approach which incorporates comprehension, decoding, and phonics.  These elements will be done at the child’s specific reading level.
    2. Kid Writing/Collins Writing.
    3. Read Naturally.
    4. Building and Title I aide support – all aides meet highly qualified guidelines.
    5. Everyday Math.
    6. All teaching faculty are state certified and meet Act 48 professional development requirements.
    7. Individual Reading and Math Programs.
  2. Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement and growth.
    1. Parent-teacher conferences – September 29th, December 13th and February 28th.
    2. Individual teachers make numerous phone, email and personal contacts beyond these specific dates
  3. Provide parents with access to frequent reports on their children’s progress.
    1. Report card dates (grades 1-2) – November 10th, January 26th, April 4th, and June 9th.  Report card dates (kindergarten) – January 26th, and June 9th.  Dates may change due to snow days.
    2. Individual teachers make numerous phone, email and personal contacts beyond these specific dates
  4. Communicate proficiency levels to parents through:
    1. Report cards
    2. Specific proficiency levels for each grade are described on the grade level report cards
    3. Parent/teacher meetings
    4. Access to M.C.
    5. Professional levels and growth.
  5. Use the following forms of academic assessment to measure student progress.
    1. Teacher observation/documentation
    2. District literacy assessment
    3. State assessment
    4. Curriculum based assessments
  6. Provide descriptions of how parents can help their child improve achievement.
    1. Report cards
    2. Parent teacher conferences
    3. R.T.I.
    4. At-Risk
    5. SAP
    6. Access to web-based programs at home.
    7. Mastery Connect – daily progress monitoring.
  7. Provide parents reasonable access to staff by means of:
    1. Phone calls and voice mail
    2. District email
    3. Meetings after school
    4. Open House – District and Title I
  8. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities as follows:
    1. Parents have the opportunity to volunteer in the school by contacting the teacher directly or the elementary principal.
    2. Parents may contact the classroom teacher or the elementary principal to arrange for classroom observations.
    3. Must follow district protocol.
  9. Involve parents in planning, review, and improvement of the school’s parental involvement policy, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way.
  10. Involve parents in the joint development of any school wide program plan, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way.
  11. Hold an annual meeting to inform parents of the school’s participation in Title I, Part A programs, and to explain the Title I, Part A requirements, and the right of parents to be involved in Title I, Part A programs.  The school will convene the meeting at a convenient time to parents.  The school will invite all parents of children participating in Title I, Part A programs and will encourage them to attend.
  12. Provide information to parents of participating students in an understandable and uniform format, including alternative formats upon the request of parents with disabilities, and, to the extent practicable, in a language that parents can understand.
  13.  Provide materials and trainings through newsletters, workshops, meetings in order to improve their child’s achievement.
  14. Conduct an annual survey of parent, student and teacher needs to assist in the development of the school wide plan.
  15. Teachers will promote student learning with a growth mindset.

 

Parent Responsibilities

 

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

 

  1. Monitoring attendance.
  2. Making sure that homework is completed.
  3. Provide a quiet and well-equipped place to do homework.
  4. Set aside a specific time to do homework.
  5. Look over homework assignments to check for understanding.
  6. Be available to assist.
  7. Sign and return all papers that require a parent or guardian’s signature.
  8. Encourage positive attitudes toward school.
  9. Attend parent-teacher conferences.
  10. Staying informed about my child’s education and communication with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school.
  11. Contact info must be current and up-to-date.
  12. Parents encourage growth mindset.

 

Student Responsibilities

 

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards.  Specifically, we will:

 

  1. Be responsible for taking homework and school notices home daily.
  2. We will do homework every day and ask for help when needed to.
  3. Read at least between 15 and 30 minutes every day outside of school time.
  4. Try our hardest on school assignments.
