ProjecT Kind Starts at Troy High School

ProjecT Kind Starts at Troy High School

ProjecT Kind is a K-12 project.  It will look slightly different at each level, as it is tailored for students of varying ages.  To get kick off the project, staff and students have joined forces to generate excitement and explain why this is happening. T-shirts have been provided for each student to serve as a visual and wearable reminder of what we’re doing.  We are using the book, The Seven Habits for Highly Effective Teens, as a basis to move forward.  The book presents important habits which help students find success in their current lives, and in their futures.  The seven habits are: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand, then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw.

The goals for Project Kind are to arm students with tools to be successful in life, increase school spirit, provide recognition (at various times) for all of our students, and to develop peer mentorship and conflict resolution programs.

We have a several things planned for this week to start the semester--a school spirit assembly to start the idea of class (grade level) competition, an activity for Period 1 classes on Tuesday, and a guest speaker for Tuesday afternoon. T-shirts will be handed out for all grades and for staff on Monday.

We have a group of faculty, staff, and students who will be working on activities for the high school. Mr. Ulkins, our interim superintendent is starting a district-wide committee.

When Mr. Brenner and I started this fall, we knew we needed to build school spirit, to provide mentorship for students, and work on a student based conflict resolution program. Although it’s been a really busy fall semester, we’re finally ready to roll out ProjecT Kind.  What’s made this possible are the parents, students, and teachers who have come together in a powerful way.  Parents presented the T-shirt idea to us. We’ve brainstormed and discussed our goals for this project with the student body, and teachers, staff, adults, and students have come together to help organize the ProjecT Kind kick-off.  Keep an eye out for ProjecT Kind t-shirts around town. The T-shirt was designed by one of our students!
